The heaviness in your head is a visitor, not a resident.
For our mothers, our grandmothers,
our Nanas and our Mimis.
And for our children, and our children’s children. For every young person still deciding who they are — and for the strong fathers, and the good men who stay.
We are strong because of you. We are great mothers because of you. We are great sisters because of you. You are the root. We are just the part of the plant that happens to be blooming right now.
May this be the season our families rest easy with one another.
And for Boone, on his first birthday gone.
Love does not stop when someone leaves.
It just changes address.
That’s the entire gate. There’s no credential to show, no tradition to belong to, no test to pass. Come in by whatever name you first knew her.
This garden grows as you read.
